Martyr's Memorial or Shaheed Smarak in patna, Bihar

The Shaheed Smarak is situated in the heart of the city of Patna. Shaheed Smarak has earned its importance as a landmark of the Patna city.The Martyr's Memorial is a life-size statue of seven brave young men who sacrificed their lives in the Quit India Movement (August 1942), to hoist the National flag.The students attempted to anchor the flag over the Bihar Vidhan Sabha or the Legislative Assembly of the state of Bihar in Patna. Under the command of the British Government in India, the students suffered the same fate as several other martyrs of the country. The order of shooting the trespassers was sounded and six of the students died of being shot by the police. The last and the seventh student sacrificed his life before the blazing guns of the British only after hoisting the flag over the assembly.

Ramanand Singh - Ram Mohan Roy Seminary, class IX
Satish Prasad Jha - Patna Collegiate School, class X
Jalpati Kumar - Bihar National College, 2nd year
Devipada Choudhry - Miller High English School, class IX
Rajendra Singh - Patna High English School, matric class
Ramgovind Singh - Punpun High English School, matric class IX


The foundation stone of Martyr's Memorial was laid on August 15 1947, by the Governor of Bihar, Mr.Jairam Das Daulatram. The sculptor Mr. Deviprasad Roy choudhry built the [[bronze] statue of the seven students with the National Flag. These statues were cast in Italy and later placed here.
